Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Household Hazardous Waste collection is held each September at the Transfer Station. The 2019 collection will be Saturday, September 21.  Ipswich residents may bring their accepted items that day from 9 a.m. to noon free of charge.

Residents who miss this collection can check for open events in the surrounding area, which are held (and posted) every spring and fall. Please note that other towns will charge a fee for the dropoff, so review the list carefully for specifics.

For dates other than those listed, contact New England Disposal Technologies for their dropoff and pickup programs.

Remember -- latex paint is NOT hazardous waste. Remove the lid from your paint can, let it dry out, and place the can and lid (separately) in with your trash.

Please note items listed below that are NOT accepted as hazardous waste.

  • Cathode ray tubes, electronics
  • Empty or partially empty propane tanks
  • Explosives or any ordnance
  • Latex paint
  • Materials with no hazardous constituents
  • Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Radioactive material (including smoke detectors)
  • Tires

Electronics Special Collections

Special collections are held on a Saturday each May and September at the Winthrop School from 9 a.m. to noon.

Electronics can be dropped off for a fee, and proceeds go to Ipswich nonprofit organizations.
