As part of the Essex National Heritage Area's county-wide Trails & Sails celebration, the Open Space Program hosted a six mile kayak and three mile walking tour through the Ipswich River estuary this past week. All thirteen participants were treated to a glorious warm, sunny, calm day paddling from the Town Wharf, around Little Neck and Great Neck, ending the day at Eagle Hill Landing. The group stopped along the way to walk Town owned conservation properties at Nichols Field, Clark Pond Overlook at the Great Neck Conservation Area, and Strawberry Hill. It was great to welcome local Ipswich residents who had never kayaked through the estuary before, as well as out of towners from as nearby as Beverly, and far away as Derry, New Hampshire who got to enjoy some of the natural treasures Ipswich has to offer.
