[ARCHIVED] Recyclables CANNOT Be Placed in Plastic Bags

Our hauler, JRM, will NOT collect any recycling in plastic bags, and any recyclable material placed out in a plastic bag will be left. If there are visible plastic bags in a recycling bin, the entire bin will be left behind. Styrofoam also cannot be placed in your recycling bin, so both the Styrofoam and the contents of the bin will not be picked up.

Although this policy has been in effect since 2010, we have become aware of exceptions being made in certain locations in Ipswich. Because our recyclables are now taken to a JRM facility, and the plastic bags are creating problems with the sorting machinery, JRM’s crews will no longer be making exceptions.

Recycling bins can be obtained at the DPW for $10, and free stickers are available for residents who prefer to use a different container, especially one with a cover. Questions should be directed to the Ipswich Recycling Coordinator at IpswichRecycles@gmail.com or 781-334-5426.
