[ARCHIVED] Dedication of Public Sculpture, "High Spirits" at lower North Green

On Saturday morning, June 17th, at 11:00 a.m., the Town will hold a ceremony to officially dedicate the installation of the High Spirits sculpture on the lower North Green.
The ceremony will be held next to the sculpture, near the top of the lower North Green (easterly side).

Town officials will recount the project history, the donor and sculptor will make some remarks, and persons who helped make the project possible will be acknowledged. The Town will also unveil, for its first public viewing, a plaque installed on the granite ledge commemorating the artists of Ipswich for their works, which, as the plaque states, “have provided beauty, inspiration, and hope.”

The donor, Rick Silverman, was inspired to commission a public sculpture which acknowledges the contributions of Ipswich artists about eight years ago, following the death of his wife, Robin Silverman, who was an active member of the town’s art community. He chose Chris Williams, a noted sculptor from Essex, MA, to bring his vision to reality. It took nearly three years of effort to identify a location for the sculpture, obtain Town approval, and to have High Spirits installed. The sculpture has been in place for about six months.

Musical entertainment and refreshments will be provided between 10:30 am and the start of the ceremony. During that time attendees may view the sculpture and interact with the donor and the sculptor.

Please join us on Saturday morning the 17th for the festivities! If you live nearby, we encourage you to walk or ride your bike, as parking will be limited.
