The code requires the numbers to be visible from the street, either on both sides of a mail box or pole or on the building itself. If there are multiple tenants, each unit needs to be numbered also. The numbers need to be a contrasting color. If a home or building is too far back from the street for the numbers to be visible, a pole with the numbers displayed must be placed at the end of the driveway near the street. An unnumbered address, building, or tenant space can cost precious time in an emergency.
